Hi everyone, my name is Jimmy Larsen and I run the OffGridSkater channel. While filming a recent episode in the Philippines, my backpack was stolen with nearly all of the equipment I use to film and produce my videos.
For the past several years I’ve been traveling, skateboarding, and documenting the journey through weekly videos that share the places I explore and the people I meet along the way.
While filming a recent episode in the Philippines, my backpack was stolen right after finishing a full day of shooting. Inside that bag was my passport, my filming phone (an iPhone 15 Pro Max), two hard drives containing months of Southeast Asia footage, my Rode microphone kit, GoPro batteries, tripods, power banks, SD cards, skate tools, and the cash I was carrying.
These are the core tools I rely on to create every episode of OffGridSkater, and losing them has been a major setback. Because my passport and identification were also inside the bag, I’m currently working through the process of replacing those documents while trying to rebuild the gear needed to keep the channel moving forward.
Despite everything that happened, I was still able to piece together the episode from the footage that survived so people can see what actually unfolded that day. Many viewers reached out asking how they could help, and after thinking about it I decided to set up this fund to help replace the essential equipment that was taken.
This year has already been a big transition in life for me. Camille and I are also preparing for a baby on the way, so navigating a situation like this while traveling and creating content abroad has definitely been a challenge. Still, OffGridSkater has always been about pushing forward even when things don’t go as planned.
Rebuilding the gear will allow me to continue producing weekly episodes and documenting this journey.
Rebuild Goals
• Replacement filming phone
• New hard drives for editing and backups
• Microphone kit and audio gear
• Tripods and filming accessories
• Basic travel filming equipment
I’ll also make a follow-up video on the channel showing the gear that gets replaced and how the support from this community helped get the channel moving forward again.
OffGridSkater has always been about exploration, resilience, and figuring things out as they come. Any support here helps me rebuild the tools needed to continue documenting these adventures and sharing them with all of you.
Thank you for being part of the journey.
