Meephol Farms is a local Kaua‘i farm that many people know through the fresh fruit, vegetables, smoothies, and sugarcane juice they provide to the community. This fundraiser is for the Meephol ‘Ohana, whose three farms across Kōloa, Moloaʻa, and Kalepa were devastated by Hurricane Lowell on September 8.
The storm changed everything in a matter of hours. More than 300 trees were destroyed, and 90% of the fields were damaged. This was supposed to be the family’s most abundant harvest yet, especially during peak mango and avocado season. Instead, they were forced to gather fallen mangoes and avocados from the ground and sell them before they spoiled. The damage wiped out income the family depends on for living expenses and their children’s college tuition.
The impact has continued beyond the fields. The Kōloa Fruit Stand has had to close more days each week as tourism dropped, cutting off another important source of income. For a family that has already rebuilt their lives on Kaua‘i after surviving human trafficking, this loss is especially heartbreaking. Their farms represent years of hard work, sacrifice, and resilience.
