Rebuilding Life for Jude and Leah
Donation protected
Our dear friends, mama Jude and daughter Leah are in need of our help.
Jude and Leah lost their rental home, and everything in it, in the Santa Cruz mountains due to the CZU Fire. When they evacuated they drove east to get out of the smoke, and were camping there for a few weeks. They were then recently evacuated from their campsite because of threat from another wildfire. They have funds for two nights in a hotel but need help beyond that.
They have been applying for assistance through FEMA but have been denied any assistance (they are continuing to try to get through the overwhelmed FEMA system but have had no luck yet). Red Cross hasn't been able to help. They have no renter's insurance.
Jude and Leah are some of the most kind, generous, hard-working, loving people I know. Jude suffers from multiple serious medical conditions, and has been mostly bedridden for a number of years now. Leah is a bright, talented, mature, compassionate young woman and has been by her mom's side, supporting her for years. They have already been working hard to make ends meet, and this situation has added a huge layer of challenges.
They need our help to find immediate stable, affordable housing that meets their needs. Your donation today will allow them to get somewhere safe immediately so they can work on logistics to make a longer-term plan.
Jude lost many pieces of essential medical equipment in the fire, and already has $30,000 of medical-related debt. They need to erase their debt and have funds to start over from scratch.
I know Jude and Leah from our women's choir in Santa Cruz, and know how much joy and love they brought to the group. It is such a pleasure to sing and be in community with this sweet mother-daughter duo. Join me in coming together to lift them up so they may find a safe and stable place to live and begin to rebuild their lives.
My family and I have also been evacuated from our home from the same fire for three weeks now, and have struggled to find temporary housing as well. We have been so fortunate to have the help of dozens of people each personally supporting us in huge and small ways that have all added up to us getting our basic needs met every day. Everyone deserves to have their basic needs met, and I want to see to it that Jude and Leah's are. Let's help them move past just meeting their basic needs and into thriving. Together we can.
Thank you for your support!

I will try to update here as much as possible as I communicate more with them about their needs. They are currently out of the Santa Cruz area. They hope to return as soon as possible, and when they do and have secured housing I am sure they will need more help to acquire many things they will need.
