Help Jessica Cairnie Rebuild Her Life After a Life-Threatening Shooting
Many of you may have heard about this tragic incident in the news, but this is the story of the woman behind the headlines — a mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who means so much to so many people.
On Friday, July 24, 2026, Jessica Cairnie of New Portland, Maine, went with her son, Kenny Smith, to pick up his three children. What should have been a normal family moment quickly turned into a nightmare when a violent confrontation occurred, and Jessica was shot in the chest.
In those terrifying moments, Kenny acted without hesitation. He immediately worked to get his mother help and get her to emergency responders as quickly as possible. His quick actions helped make sure Jessica received lifesaving medical attention when every second mattered.
Jessica was airlifted to the hospital with a life-threatening injury. Doctors discovered the bullet was only one centimeter from her heart and had also punctured the left lobe of her lung. Through the grace of God, the skill of her medical team, and the fast response of those around her, Jessica survived. She is now stable, but she has a long and difficult road ahead.
Jessica has always been the kind of person who puts others before herself. She is a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who has spent her life caring for the people she loves. She has always been there when someone needed help and has been the first person to lend a helping hand.
Now, in an instant, everything has changed. Instead of spending time with her family and enjoying life, Jessica is fighting through pain, healing from serious injuries, and facing months of recovery. She is currently unable to work and will need ongoing support and care as she begins this journey. Her recovery may include physical therapy, rehabilitation, follow-up appointments, and continued medical treatment.
Jessica's children and grandchildren are doing everything they can to support her while also coping with the emotional trauma of what happened. Family members are traveling to be with her, help care for her, and support her during this difficult time.
Unfortunately, a tragedy like this brings overwhelming financial challenges. While Jessica focuses on healing, the expenses continue to grow. Donations will help with:
• Medical expenses and ongoing treatment
• Prescription medications
• Transportation and travel to medical appointments
• Travel expenses for family members visiting and supporting her during recovery
• Physical therapy, rehabilitation, and recovery needs
• Lost wages while Jessica is unable to work
• Property taxes, utilities, groceries, and essential household expenses
• Other unexpected costs that come with a long recovery
Our family is doing everything we can to support Jessica, but we cannot do this alone. We are asking our community, friends, family, and anyone who feels moved to help to stand beside Jessica during this incredibly difficult time.
Every donation, no matter the amount, will make a difference. If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing Jessica's story, keeping her in your thoughts and prayers, and helping us spread the word.
Jessica's life was changed in a moment, but with love, support, and kindness from others, we hope to help her focus on what matters most — healing and getting back to the people who love her.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your prayers, generosity, and support. Every share, every kind word, and every donation mean's more than we can express.
