Rebuilding Hope: Therapy Space Needs Your Help

Dearest community, Asheville, NC, (my home town and where I live currently) has been absolutely ravaged by Hurricane Helene. The destruction we are seeing is unimaginable- even when I am looking at it in real time right in front of me.
As many of you know, I am a psychotherapist, providing mental health counseling and therapy to adults in my community. I left a previous career, went to graduate school, and found my path as a therapist, joined a small therapy collective, and made my dream office where clients can feel safe and comfortable.
Yesterday I had confirmation that my office has been utterly destroyed, ceiling caving in, walls gone, just entirely obliterated. My office is located in one of the worst hit areas of Asheville- Biltmore Village, right between Sweeten Creek and the Swannanoa River. I am absolutely heartbroken to lose this space, as well as the art, books, and furniture I lovingly curated so that my therapy office could be a peaceful and safe feeling space for all of my clients. The real heartbreak is that I need to get a new space set up as soon as possible, and this is where I would deeply appreciate your support if you are able to spare even a little. I have lost EVERYTHING in my workspace. I need furniture, books, art, lighting and more, as well as potential rent support while I figure out how to proceed providing therapy to this community which has lost everything and is still without power and water, and with very limited cell service. Any donations you can send my way will help me get set up again to provide therapy to people in person in a safe and protected environment. I do not know when my next paycheck will be able to come in, and having just set all of this up in the last 2 years going into private practice, this disaster struck at a precarious period of growth for me just as I was feeling financially stable. The financial burden of this is significant for me, a sole proprietor of a new small business.
I am so grateful that my home is safe, as are my parents, siblings, and the extended family I have heard from. I can’t begin to tell you the relief this gives me. I have so much to be thankful for, and I am.
If you have something to spare, and want to know how to help me, this is it. My clients and I thank you.
Love, Abby
