During the last week of January 2024, The Dunfees were a victim of a fire in the second floor of their home that is being built. One of the tool batteries they were using exploded spontaneously while being stored and caused a significant fire in their second floor. Everyone was able to get out of the house safely in time before the fire department arrived to knock the fire down.
While the structure of the home appears to be intact, the fire, smoke, and water damage has meant that almost the entire second floor needs to be gutted and rebuilt, and all of the items on that floor were lost. Brent and Tabby, along with their five-year old and three-month old daughters, had already been living in alternate accommodations while their house was being finished, but that living arrangement was coming to end just as this tragedy occurred. Brent has been working very hard in the last few months spending a lot of time, energy, and money on getting the house ready to move in - progress which has just gone up in flames.
There is a chance that, long term, insurance will be able to cover some of the major repairs but there are a lot of immediate needs that the Dunfees still have. They will be out of their house and need to rent a new location for possibly three months, and a lot of their working tools were lost. Since they were in the process of moving in soon, they had been storing most of their belongings upstairs and those are now all gone. Belongings like most of their clothes, all the diapers and baby supplies they owned, equipment for their three dogs, brand new appliances and hardwood flooring waiting to be installed, and many other personal possessions.
As their friends and neighbors, we have seen the Dunfees give generously to their friends and family in need. Now, it's our turn to rally around them and provide the support they need to rebuild their life. Every donation, no matter the size, will make an impact and help them take the first steps toward recovery.
Your generous contributions will go towards:
- Intermediate Shelter: Finding a safe and comfortable place for the Dunfees to stay as they navigate the next few months.
- Clothing and Essentials: Replacing the basic necessities that were lost in the fire, such as kids clothing, baby items, toiletries, and personal items.
- Construction Assistance: Many of the items lost were directly related to the ongoing house work, which still needs to continue as soon as the insurance company releases the home back to them after investigations have concluded.
- Children's Needs: Ensuring the Dunfee children have food, clothing, and toys to bring a sense of normalcy back into their lives. Almost all of the five-year old's items were lost.
- Pet Supplies: For their three dogs, they needed to buy new leashes, collars, food as most of those were lost as well.
We understand that not everyone may be in a position to contribute financially, but there are other ways you can help. Please consider sharing this fundraiser on your social media platforms, spreading the word within your community, or offering words of encouragement to the Dunfees during this challenging time.
Let us come together as a community and show the Dunfees that they are not alone in this journey. Your kindness and generosity will make a significant difference in helping them rebuild and reclaim the hope that the fire tried to take away.
Thank you for being the compassionate and supportive community that we know you are.
