Hello, my name is Alexis, and I’m fundraising for my hero—my mum, Kathleen Larkins.
My mum is truly my inspiration. At just 39 years old, she suffered a stroke that forced her to give up the business she had worked so hard to build. After dedicating her life to working and providing for others, she suddenly found herself unable to continue the life she knew.
As if that wasn’t enough, the following year she was dealt another devastating blow: a diagnosis of stage 3 breast cancer. She faced the gruelling treatments and ultimately underwent a mastectomy, yet through it all, she remained a warrior—strong, resilient, and inspiring everyone around her, especially me.
Despite everything she has endured, my mum received more heartbreaking news. The NHS refused to fund her breast reconstruction surgery due to the medication she takes for her stroke. For her, reconstruction felt like a symbol of recovery—a reward after years of struggle and survival. To have that taken away was incredibly painful.
But my mum hasn’t given up. She’s now exploring the option of having the surgery abroad in order to feel whole again.
I believe no one who has endured what she has should be burdened by the financial stress of something so essential to her well-being. She has already suffered more than enough, and the added weight of debt is something she should not have to carry.
That’s why I’m starting this fundraiser—to stand beside my mum in this final step of her journey. I want to help ease her burden and give her the chance to feel complete again after the hardest years of her life.
Join us on this journey and help support my mother as she faces the final chapter of her breast reconstruction. Your generosity will bring her one step closer to healing, wholeness, and the strength to reclaim the life she deserves.
