Three months ago, I found myself in the midst of a horrifying incident that left me physically and emotionally scarred. While verbally defending a couple facing racial abuse, my friends and I became victims of a violent assault by security guards at a bar in Lisbon. The consequences of that night have been far-reaching, affecting not only my physical health but also my ability to sustain myself financially.

The injuries sustained during the assault have taken a toll on my well-being, preventing me from working for two months. Currently, I can only work part time as a freelancer and this period of forced partial inactivity has created a financial strain, leading to unpaid debts, including taxes and borrowed funds from friends who generously supported me during this challenging time. The physical and mental trauma has also hindered my ability to focus, causing migraines, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

I am currently grappling with mounting living expenses bills, therapy sessions, loans and essential medical check-ups, all while trying to get back on my feet. The financial burden is overwhelming, threatening my ability to continue to work full time as a social entrepreneur and freelancer dedicated to helping migrants and refugees create businesses and integrate in Portugal.
