I am Dr. Omar Mohammed Shabat, an orthopedic surgeon at the Indonesian Hospital in northern Gaza.

On October 31, 2023, my life changed forever. I lost my three precious children in a single moment:

Muath, my eldest son, only 13 years old.

Yahya, my sweet 8-year-old boy.

Bayan, my baby girl who had just turned one.

My wife and my only surviving daughter were also severely injured in the same attack. Despite my unbearable loss, I remained in northern Gaza, standing by my people and fulfilling my duty in the hospital. I did not leave the medical frontlines, even for a single day.

Now, after the war, our reality is one of ruins. Homes, hospitals, and schools have been destroyed. Families are displaced, and the wounds—both physical and emotional—run deep. Yet, amidst the devastation, I still see hope. I dream of rebuilding our home for my surviving daughter and wife, restoring the Indonesian Hospital so we can continue saving lives, and helping others who have lost everything.
