On June 19th, Hurricane Erick made landfall in southern Mexico. Many towns were severely affected, among them El Potrero in Oaxaca, where my aunt, Hortencia C. Guzmán, lives with my uncle, Antonio Cortés, and my grandmother, Jacoba Guzmán.
My aunt is a teacher in the town's elementary school, and my uncle is a farmer. Their house was practically destroyed, and their crops and livestock were devastated by the storm, making it extremely difficult for them to recover.
One week after the storm, they are still without electricity, and the roads are severely damaged. The government's response has been steady, albeit slow.
Because of that, I'm creating this fundraising, where any help is welcome. As little as it may be, it will mean a great deal to the Guzman family and, to the extent possible, also to the community of the town of El Potrero.
Thank you very much for your help.
