Rebuilding Gilbert's Upholstery
Donation protected
Four-alarm blaze destroys a 40+ year old family-owned business. A raging fire in an adjacent business devastated Gilbert’s Upholstery’s business on May 15th. Fire and water damage ruined the building and its precious inventory of antiques, specialized equipment, tools, and materials. Two brothers invested their lifetime savings in this neighborhood business; their families depend on its income. Please help support them as they rebuild their livelihood.
Gil and Rick Pons have worked in the family upholstery business since before graduating from North Catholic High School in Philadelphia. Their father started the business after emigrating from Cuba. The family restored a century-old, dilapidated building and hand-built a beautiful storefront and workshop. They kept the business in the Frankford neighborhood because they grew up there, were always connected to, and believed in the community. Please help Gil and Rick restore Gilbert's Upholstery, known for its craftsmanship, integrity and pride. Don’t let this highly skilled small business disappear from the neighborhood.
