Our names are Shirley and Lezly, the loving and devoted daughters of Allan Avila, who have embarked on an extraordinary journey of hope and healing. In the face of adversity, we’ve come together to support our father's recovery after a life-altering accident. As a family, we are determined to see our dad through this challenging time with unwavering love and resilience as his guiding light.

On September 23, 2023, our father was returning home from a work trip and had just left the airport. He was crossing an intersection with 14 seconds still left on the walk signal when a van hit him and ran over him. Our father ended up pinned beneath the front driver’s side wheel and it is only thanks to the quick reaction of civilians nearby that our father is still with us. Someone had run to get a jack, used it to lift the van off our father, and stayed with him until the ambulance and police arrived.

My family and I are so grateful to those who helped him and now our focus is on our father’s recovery. He was taken to Elmhurst Hospital with multiple injuries and it’s uncertain if he will ever return to the condition he was in prior to this accident or how long his recovery will take.

This fundraiser aims to ensure that we can help our dad heal without the burden of overwhelming medical bills and the financial strain of lost wages during his extended recovery period. With unshakeable optimism, we believe in our father's strength and the power of community support.

He loved keeping busy and working on extraordinary events. He has such fond memories with the crew over the past few years. Anyone who knows our father knows how charismatic he is; he makes friends everywhere he goes. Prior to this accident, our father loved keeping busy and was always active and healthy! This is part of the reason why he is still with us now and we know it will contribute to his recovery. He also especially enjoys his days with his two 14-year-old cats, Diesel and Tyson. This campaign is a beacon of hope, a testament to the strength of family bonds, and an opportunity for those who can contribute to our dad’s healing journey. Together, we can make a difference in his life and help him move toward an optimistic recovery.
