As many of you have seen, the Wisconsin River crested at historic levels of flowage this week, displacing families and destroying homes. My 84 year old father David Linda and my step mom Mary are one of the families severely impacted by this natural disaster. We are seeking whatever help we can get to get them through this with the ability to stay in their home in the aftermath.
My father built his home at the outskirts of the city of Portage just outside of Blackhawk Park in the Township of Caledonia. It is where he raised two of his daughters after the loss of our mother. It is where he took care of two of his brothers in their senior years keeping them home with family. It is where his grandbabies have their second home. Built with hard work by his own hands with the help of friends and family.
The waters have never reached his home in the past. Not like this. We did what any family could, we sandbagged, we pumped water out, and braced ourselves. Friends gave what help they could, but you can't stop the water, you can only pray.
As there has been a state of emergency declaration by our Governor we hope that there will be help but so far FEMA isn't involved. My dad over the years of his life helped during many horrendous natural disasters and crisis. He helped in the aftermath of Mt. St Helen's eruption, brought recovery items to Florida after Hurricane Michael and many other storms, he hauled generators to Ground Zero to help in recovery of life. For a man who has given so much of his life to helping others in crisis, asking for help isn't easy. He will need replacing of a wheelchair ramp he desperately needs for mobility into his home, debris clean up, the replacing of essential home items like his furnace and water heater and filtration system, and those are things we are aware of now before the water clears,. especially as we don't know what the insurance will cover or if any other government aid will be available. Every dollar helps, every share helps, and if you know people that would rather donate time resources, repairs please feel free to have them dm Kt Linda on Facebook.
