On August 22, the Hawk Fire swept through the Reno, Nevada area, destroying the home of our friend and colleague, Crystal Hallock and her family.
Crystal and her family lost their home and everything in it. Thankfully, Crystal, her family, and all of their animals escaped safely.
This was more than Crystal’s house. It was the family home, shared by three generations of her family, including her grandchildren and other family members, as well as several beloved dogs. In a matter of hours, they lost the belongings, necessities, memories, and everyday comforts that made this home theirs.
Heartbreakingly, this is the second time Crystal and her family have lost a family home to fire. Their first home was lost in a fire in 2018. After rebuilding their lives once before, they are now facing the unimaginable reality of having to start over again.
Crystal is a Parent Leader who uses her lived experience to advocate for families and ensure that parents have a meaningful voice in the systems that affect their lives. She has dedicated herself to supporting others, and now her family needs that same support.
We are starting this GoFundMe to help Crystal and her family with the immediate and ongoing costs of rebuilding their lives, including temporary and longer-term housing, clothing, food and everyday necessities, household items, transportation, care and supplies for their animals, and replacing essential belongings.
Every donation will help ease the financial burden in the weeks and months ahead. If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing this fundraiser with your family, friends, colleagues, and community.
All funds raised will go toward helping Crystal Hallock and her family recover and rebuild after the Hawk Fire.
Thank you for surrounding Crystal and her family with support during this incredibly difficult time.
