Rebuilding Bahía Blanca: Support Flood Recovery Efforts

Hello, my name is Carolina. I'm currently living in Madrid, but I was born in Bahía Blanca, I lived in that fantastic city for 26 years.

On March 7, 2025, the port city of Bahía Blanca, Argentina, experienced an unprecedented natural disaster. In just eight hours, over 400 millimeters (approximately 15.7 inches) of rain—equivalent to the city's average annual rainfall—poured down, leading to catastrophic flooding. This deluge resulted in the tragic loss of at least 16 lives, with two young girls still missing, and forced hundreds of residents to evacuate their homes.

The sheer volume of water devastated infrastructure across the city. Bridges were destroyed, asphalt roads collapsed, and entire neighborhoods were submerged. Hospitals were not spared; medical staff had to evacuate newborns from flooded neonatal units, showcasing the dire situation. The storm also led to widespread power outages, leaving significant portions of Bahía Blanca without electricity and water.

In response to this calamity, the Argentine government has declared a period of national mourning and pledged emergency reconstruction aid. However, the scale of destruction means that rebuilding efforts will require additional support.
