Monday afternoon, August third, my mom's house was engulfed in flames. We still aren't sure what started it, but the wildfire conditions ravaging the Pacific Northwest right now picked it up and, within minutes, it covered her house in fire.

Thankfully, my mom, brother, and his girlfriend, along with one of their kittens, made it out. My brother ran in multiple more times over the next few minutes desperately searching for their other two cats. This landed him in a hospital due to smoke inhalation and minor abrasions on his hands and arm.

After the firefighters arrived on the scene, they sent my brother to the hospital, his girlfriend followed, and my mom was sheltered next door. While she was sitting there, watching her home get doused with water, a fire fighter walked up with the other kitten in her arms.

This morning, my brother carefully entered the house again in another desperate attempt to find his cat, Waldo (The naming irony is not lost on us.) He found him hiding in the closet of a room across the house from where the fire began, alive, but not doing well. His whiskers were singed off, his paws were burnt, and his meow was weak and hoarse. He was taken to the animal hospital and we were told his chances of survival are good, and it's lucky we found him so soon. Unfortunately, his bill is going to be $700. We are just so happy he found him.

With finding Waldo, everyone living in the home made it out with their lives.

Unfortunately, my brother works from home, and he lost his entire office. His computer, his tools, all of his supplies, even his cell phone- they're all gone.

Along with years and years of memories, photos, documents, and precious belongings, they've also lost my mom's entire bed, most if not all of her clothing, and her passport and medication.

We are fortunate in the sense that between those of us not living in that house, we have space to house them while they get back on their feet.

That said, they still need help. Anything you can give would help.
