I recently lost my job abruptly after working for Instacart for over 7 years. I was sent an email with vague language and deactivated unexpectedly. I attempted to appeal their decision but was met with a closed door and no way to discuss the matter. I was told their decision was final, with no evidence, and my emails stopped getting responses. I have attempted to continue the appeal process but have been left waiting with no idea if I will even hear back or get to speak with a real person.

This job was a major part of how I supported myself and my daughter. At times it was full time or more and at other times it was my plan B. For a little over a year now it had become more than full time, while working toward and planning a more sustainable future. I put in incredibly long hours grinding 6-7 days a week to get by. I took my work seriously and built 5 star ratings and positive relationships with customers along the way. I loved my job and serving my community and never expected something like this to happen.

This situation has thrown me into a financial crisis as days will quickly turn to weeks worth of lost wages.

I’m a single parent and have had sole custody of my daughter for 3 years with no help. This has required me to have flexibility in my schedule in order to care for her. I worked around her schedule and needs and have held it down by myself. I put so much pressure on myself everyday because there’s nobody else to call on. It’s sink or swim, so I did what any parent would do and devoted all my time to working and my daughter.

Ive been encouraged to create this fundraiser and given it thoughtful consideration. Asking for help isn’t something that feels very comfortable to me, but I also recognize that sometimes we all need support. I know it creates judgement in some people while others want to be of help.

I’m actively creating a game plan for what to do next while applying for every opportunity that I can find that fits within our needs as a family. This fundraiser is simply to help cover essential expenses like rent, utilities and our basic needs while I stabilize. I may also need to file arbitration as next steps.
