We lost our home and the material contents - which as a whole, means little. This is the first time Chris and I have experienced this type of loss - where one’s safety and security is pulled out from under you. Multiply this in a community affecting thousands of people - it is unfathomable. It has not sunk in, quite yet. We don’t know what comes next or what lies ahead.
companies and individuals. It is midnight, I am sitting, listening to the rain, thankful that it has come. It is not a storm, just a gentle, normal rain, no high winds, that is much needed after a fire. I am hoping it has reached o abandon their cars to wait in the ocean for rescue for hours and the many that did not make it. They were scenes from movies, dodging downed and falling power lines, Flames licking at your heels. It will be a long time coming before I can watch an action movie again.
THANK YOU to the emergency services staff, emergency organizations & staff and volunteers for everything you are doing. We are so grateful for the outpouring of support from companies and individuals on Maui, the neighbor islands and beyond, it is beyond amazing and truly heartfelt for everyone. We are so grateful for all that we do have, our lives and each other, as so many we know, have suffered the loss of loved ones - we have yet to hear of the countless others not accounted for.
We did mange to drive around Lahaina today, saw the carnage of everyones lives, our home, all the places we knew and loved, that enter twined our childhood memories and lives. There were pockets that were untouched by the heat and flames. Incredible. That brought joy, gratefulness and hope, to see random structures that survived amid charred debris. Tomorrow will be better, one day at a time. Lahaina, Kihei and Kula will rebuild.
