On October 9, 2024, my life changed in an instant. As I was heading into the hospital for brain surgery, I received a call from my cousin with devastating news: my house was on fire. I woke up from a critical medical procedure only to find that my home and nearly everything I owned had been destroyed.

​The loss was compounded by professional negligence. After the fire, a firm hired to inventory my belongings instead threw everything away without documenting a single item. To add to this, the few possessions I managed to save and place in a storage unit were stolen just 30 days later.

​A nightmare with the first contractor. In May 2025, I hired a contractor to begin repairs, but he performed an unauthorized "over-demo," causing thousands of dollars in damage. He double-charged me for work and then filed a lawsuit against me—a tactic designed to tie me up in court and stall my progress.

​The struggle continues with the second contractor. In September 2025, I hired a second contractor to rebuild my roof. However, the work failed official inspection. I was unable to get the contractor to fix the inadequate work because he moved back to his home country and is not returning to the U.S. Now, the only way to make the house safe is to demolish the roof and rebuild it yet again.

​The Path Forward. It has now been a year and a half since this journey began. I am fighting to rebuild from zero while balancing my health recovery with exhausting legal and construction hurdles. All funds raised will go directly toward completing these repairs so that I can finally return to my home.
