Hello,
My name is Christina. Thank you for listening to my story!
On October 30, 2023, I was hit by a speeding car while I was crossing at a crosswalk. The driver was in a stolen vehicle, uninsured, and did not have a driver's license. I spent about a month in the ICU and hospital, wherein I underwent surgery to place titanium rods and plates in my pelvis and collarbone, and was in a wheelchair for 3.5 months afterward.
Recovery has been long and, at times, really difficult, particularly with continuing chronic pain. With consistent physical and occupational therapy, however, I’ve been able to regain much of my mobility—something I don’t take for granted! Being able to walk again is something I’m deeply thankful for every day, and I owe so much of it to the amazing PT/OT therapists, nurses, and surgeons. This is nothing to say of the wonderful emotional support system of my beautiful family and friends, who I could not have done any of this without!
Even with this amazing support, I’m unfortunately still dealing with ongoing complications from the accident years later. A couple of weeks ago, I had to go back into surgery to have some of the hardware in my collarbone removed due to pain and strain on my shoulder joint, neck, and back. At the same time, my health insurance is no longer covering these costs the way it did before. The driver responsible for the accident fled the state after a warrant was issued for his arrest. He was apprehended in another state about eight months ago on unrelated federal charges and is not able to provide any financial support for this either.
I’m sharing this GoFundMe to ask for help with the new surgical and recovery expenses I’m now facing due to the recent surgery, as well as the cost of returning to physical and occupational therapy. Continuing treatment is an important part of my recovery, and right now, it’s something I can’t manage on my own.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story! There are so many deserving people on GoFundMe who didn't get even a fraction of the support that I have had along the way in this journey. I truly don’t expect anything, but I’m grateful for any support, or even just sharing this!
