Who I am and where I'm from?
Most of you know me, I'm Jeff Peters. I'm originally from WV and now reside in Charlotte, NC.
The story began with a trip to Haiti that was supposed to have taken place several months ago. Our trip was initially scheduled long before Hurricane Matthew was even close to roaring through Haiti and our coastline. I asked myself, how can I lay in my bed when so many, including children my kid's ages, are sleeping on dirt and concrete with no flooring and barely doors to close.
My relationship with the community we are raising funds for is...
A good friend of mine Jean-Pierre Cellent is from Haiti and his father ministered in Haiti for many, many decades before his passing recently. My friend Jean-Pierre Cellent still routinely returns to minister to family, friends and community. I had offered to assist him numerous times in the past only to fade away and I did not have any impact on those suffering even before this recent devastation. I have often found myself wanting to help others but often relieving myself of that responsibility for no good reason. My heart has been moved since my first trip to Haiti to help. The puropse of this GoFundMe account is to collect contributions that will assist me with my second trip to Haiti on the 13th of this Dec.
How the funds will be spent...
The funds will be used to purchase rice which is a daily staple for the nutrition of the community, new dishes and silverware ( they have limited utensils), donations to the community's widows, and other specific items that can be selected. If people would like to determine what the contribution should be used for, we will honor the request. Additionally, we will be funding the completion of the orphanage. $16,000 has been spent thus far but more is needed to complete the upstair walls and ceiling. Shipping our box trucks and buses have large expenses as well. We will begin looking for more effective means of shipping goods such as food, hygiene items, and supplies and building materials for the orphanage.
Withdrawal plan of funds?
A 501 non-profit, Halo's Grace, which will allow for tax deductible donations has been established and we are setting up a business account to hold the funds. The dispersement of funds will come from direct purchases of items that will be tracked and while in Haiti cash will be withdrawn at certain times due to need for cash transactions. Limited locations for debit purchases. I have opened this GoFundMe account to help with hopes many of you will assist in the immediate needs of Haiti. All other donations will go towards buying supplies while in Haiti and providing it to those at arms length from where we are helping. I have watched the videos, just as you have, of the complete destruction in many of the Haitian areas. I have documented my trip with video and photos so people will actually see what and where these contributions will be going. You will personally be responsible for helping these people. It won't just be a check to someone in the mail. We are taking it with us and giving it to them. Please help me get there!! Please. We will accept donations from ALL people interested in helping others in need. Thank you.
