My name is Renae, I am originally from Jamaica currently residing in the US.

As many know, Hurricane Melissa recently tore through the island of Jamaica. The category 5 hurricane has caused great devastation in my hometown of Wilson’s Run, Trelawny. Many of our families have lost everything: their homes, their crops, their livelihoods.

Wilson’s Run is often forgotten because of how small and remote it is, but to us, it’s home. It’s where generations have grown up caring for one another, where neighbors are like family, and where we’ve always found joy even in hard times. From humble beginnings, our community has raised athletes, nurses, doctors, and teachers—proof that greatness grows from simplicity. Now it's our turn to give back. Our little community is hurting deeply and needs help to recover.
