Rebuild Westmoreland: Hope After Hurricane Melissa
When Hurricane Melissa tore through Westmoreland, Jamaica, it left behind a trail of unimaginable destruction. Entire communities have been wiped out. Families have lost their homes, their livelihoods, and in some cases, their loved ones. The beautiful parish that once brimmed with life, laughter, and resilience is now struggling to survive.
My name is Rhonda McIntosh and I am a high school principal in Minneapolis. My husband, Todan McIntosh was born and raised in Savanna-La-Mar, Jamaica, the capitol of Westmoreland. We have a home in "Sav" near our family members. We currently live in Minnesota and we are extremely worried about our loved ones and friends. Our home sustained major damage but many our friends and family members lost everything that they owned.
While the news focused primarily on Kingston, the eye of the storm has closer to Westmoreland. I fear that our friends and family will not get the resources that are needed to survive the aftermath of the hurricane.
So many people are without food, clean water, and safe shelter. The Savanna-la-Mar Hospital, a vital lifeline for thousands, suffered severe damage. Its roof was ripped apart by the storm, leaving patients and staff exposed to the elements. Roads are blocked by fallen trees and debris, cutting off access to some of the hardest-hit areas. Dead bodies of humans and animals still line parts of the streets, creating a desperate need for sanitation and proper recovery efforts.
Schools need major repairs before children can safely return to the classroom. Families are sleeping under makeshift tarps, unsure where their next meal will come from.
But together, we can help rebuild hope.
Your donation will go directly toward:
*Emergency relief — food, clean drinking water, and hygiene kits.
*Rebuilding homes and shelters for displaced families.
*Restoring schools and hospitals, starting with Savanna-la-Mar Hospital.
*Clearing roads and communities to restore safe access and transportation.
*Supporting local recovery efforts led by community leaders and volunteers.
Every dollar counts. Every act of kindness brings a family one step closer to safety, dignity, and recovery.
Westmoreland needs our love, our help, and our action — now more than ever.
I have never fund raised before, especially for something so devastating. I assure you that every dollar given will be accounted for. So, please stand with the people of Westmoreland, Jamaica. Together, we can rebuild not just homes, but hope.
Donate. Share. Support. Rebuild Westmoreland.
Thank You and God Bless You and God Bless Jamaica!
