Rebuild the Bat House

Tax deductible
On the evening of May 26, 2020, Patch of Heaven Sanctuary experienced a huge loss, even after taking all safety measures. On that night, severe weather transited our area, bringing winds of up to 60mph, flash flooding and lightning. It was during this storm that lightning struck our beloved Bat House and burned it to the ground.

We had just completed this magnificent structure in February 2019, with the goal of creating a space for the endangered Florida Bonneted Bats and Mexican Freetail Bats. This structure was designed to house up to 300,000 bats. Since its inception, the Bat House has served as an educational tool for students and adults alike. We were also just at the beginning stages of research, recording and analyzing data from our Wildlife Acoustics Echolocation device to help us determine which bat species were foraging in the area nightly.

As you can imagine, this is a great loss for the sanctuary and a significant setback in our goal of creating new habitat for wildlife through reforestation, and our mission of conservation and education. But, we refuse to give up on our goal of providing bat habitat on a large scale. Bats are a crucial part of the ecosystem in South Florida and we have to work to ensure their survival. Our staff will go back to the drawing board and create a new design for a bat house that will be even better equipped to provide a safe habitat and withstand nature's force.

The funds for the construction of the original bat house were provided by a private family, that are understandably devastated by this loss.

We're asking for your support in reconstructing the Bat House. We're thankful for every person who has invested in and enjoyed our sanctuary. We look to partner with you in any financial capacity to help rebuild the structure.

Thank you for all your can do to help us in our mission.
