Help Restore Spitzer Hardware: A Grafton Legacy

On April 21, 2026, at approximately 11:40 p.m., a suspected electrical fire broke out inside Spitzer Hardware & Supply Co. at 885 Main Street in Grafton, Ohio.

Thanks to the rapid response and coordination of multiple fire departments and emergency crews from across Lorain County, the fire was contained to the interior of the building. Power was shut off quickly, the fire was extinguished, and—most importantly—no lives were lost.

We are deeply grateful for the bravery and professionalism of everyone who responded. While the building still stands, the damage is significant.

Spitzer Hardware is a cornerstone of Grafton’s community. Serving the area since 1904, the business has been passed down through generations of the Spitzer family. After the original building was lost to fire in 1931, it was rebuilt by the family and has stood as a symbol of resilience ever since. Now, nearly a century later, that legacy faces another challenge.

This fundraiser has been created to support the Spitzer family as they begin the process of recovery and rebuilding.

Funds will help with:

• Structural repairs and restoration

• Replacing damaged equipment and inventory

• Covering insurance-related costs, including deductibles or premium increases during recovery

• Preserving a vital piece of Grafton’s history

Our community has faced difficult losses in the past. This time, we have an opportunity to come together and ensure that Spitzer Hardware is not another one.

The response on the night of the fire proved something important: when it matters most, this community shows up. Now we ask that we continue showing up—for a family, for a business, and for a legacy that has served Grafton for over 120 years.
