Nepal Glacial Flood Disaster
Please help us rebuild our outdoor center!
Dear friends, Namaste.
First, thank you to everyone who has reached out with messages, concern, and prayers following the devastating floods that swept through Nepal this week.
As many of you know, our Outdoor Center “Royal Beach” is located on the banks of the Trishuli River, directly in the path of the catastrophic flooding that tore through the region. We were fortunate that our staff had enough time to evacuate safely before the wall of water hit. But the camp itself sustained significant damage, and we are still assessing the full extent of what has been lost.
Rebuilding will take considerable time, effort, and money. Many of you have asked how you can help. We feel that one meaningful, positive and very direct way is to help us rebuild this very special place.
Over the last few years, “Royal Beach” has become the outdoor center of the Himalayan Outdoor Education Program (HOEP), where we bring schoolchildren from disadvantaged communities in Nepal into the outdoors to learn about leadership, resilience, teamwork, environmental stewardship, and the transformative power of adventure.
We think that this isn't simply about rebuilding a center, but rather It's about rebuilding an opportunity and the community. We want to use this moment not only to restore what was damaged, but also to build it back stronger and safer - including improved accommodations for the students who participate in our residential programs.
The damage to the outdoor center is expected to run into the tens of thousands of dollars, and we would be incredibly grateful for any contribution you can make. Every dollar will help us move one step closer to restoring the camp and getting HOEP back where it belongs: in the field, working with young people.
If you would like to help us rebuild, please consider making a contribution and sharing this campaign with others who believe in creating opportunity through education and adventure.
Thank you for believing in what we're trying to build.
With gratitude,
