Rebuild Rongdal Community School
Donation protected
My name is Michele,
I've been travelling to Vanuatu since 2009. In 2015 I started taking donations over to the schools, health clinics, villages and hospital.
During that time I met an amazing family. Max, Jenny and their children. They own the school and do a fabulous job at keeping it running with little to no assistance for the government. They sell their produce at the markets in town to assist with school needs.
Over the years the school has grown dramatically and children now come from other islands to attend. Unfortunately there have been multiple cyclones that have completely flattened or severely damaged the school buildings due to materials used - mainly tin and the occasional piece of wood.
The children are now being taught in large tents that are hot and uncomfortable. The children who board there are having to sleep in crowded tin rooms on the floor.
Max teaches the Australian curriculum and also combines local traditional skills such as weaving, farming, fishing, dress making.
My goal is to raise funds to build a cyclone safe school building for the children. And in the future continue on to build dorm rooms so they can sleep comfortably. There is also no electricity at the school or running water. Solar panels and water tanks would be used.
I know it's a big ask but if you can help or share, it would be greatly appreciated.
