My brother lost EVERYTHING in a fire on Sunday, May 4!!
Fortunately, his ‘kids’ (dog and cat) made it out alive.
He was standing in his underwear watching EVERYTHING he owns go up in flames. My mom was on the phone with him and heard the propane tanks explode!
Rob has always lived within his means no matter how lean the means were! He has gotten by with less than most of us could survive. AND he has never asked for anything (other than maybe a better deal on the leftover chicken at the end of his shift at the restaurant for which he was delivering! :-)
He has often gotten by with less. And he has had a greater appreciation for whatever he HAD than most people I’ve met.
Even in the face of this utter devastation, he is joyful to have his dog and cat and his own HEALTH (such as it is - he’s old ;-)
He has never and does not now need anything FANCY. He has lost a home, appliances, bedding, clothes, toiletries, and, perhaps the most painfully, decades of memorabilia.
The memorabilia is impossible to
replace. We know this. All I’m asking is to restore a quality of life to my brother that allows him some peace of mind and the limited creature comfort to which he and his pets have been accustomed. And that is not a lot.
I wish I could do more for my big brother but I am currently living ~2000 miles away. This is the best I can do. Our 82 year old mother has gone back to our hometown to lend whatever assistance she can. My sister and I are trying to do whatever we can.
THIS is entirely in service of providing support that will extend beyond the ‘acute’ portion of this tragedy.
He has never needed much and would not want anyone to ‘give until it hurts’ to help him out of this situation.
So, if it is within your particular comfort level to contribute, please do so. Anything and everything is welcomed.
Please message me directly if you have actual ‘things’ to contribute. This isn’t about MONEY. We only want to stabilize the ground upon which Rob currently stands until he, once again, can stand in his own
We thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
David (little brother) Armstrong
