Hurricane Hilary Hit: Rian Needs Winter Shelter

Donation protected
My name is Rian, and I have been "through it" over the last five years. TLDR:
Your help literally will put a roof over my head. Here's what's been going on:

I'm at a place where I need reliable shelter that can hold up to the fierce desert weather. Between three deaths in the family from 2016-2017, my service dog killed in front of me in 2020, unemployment for the majority of the last three years, training a second service dog from 2020 to today, divorce in early 2023, a cross-country move in 2022 and a second in 2023, having my trailer repossessed in 2023, and still struggling to obtain a reliable job, things have been swinging between "difficult" and "I have to start believing in the impossible happening." And then came the hurricane.

We were hit with Tropical Storm Hilary yesterday, which has caused damage both to the property as a whole and to the 15-year-old shed I'm living in. Currently, I'm camping in the tack shed by the horse barn. In dry and calm weather, it's fine, but it's not meant to be a home office at most and not for long-term residency. The patch repair I did on the roof last week in prep for this storm didn't hold up, and I was woken by water pouring onto me and my bead at 4:30am on 8/20/2023.

I'm not the only person in the world struggling to obtain shelter, but I'm trying to find a way to go about this project that will cost less than what is paid for an apartment or mortgage on an annual basis for my permanent home. I found my place, my people, and now I just need to get my home built on the land that I look forward to investing in for the rest of my natural life. I simply lack the funds to get this done. Over the last five years, I have been reading up on and planning on how to live off-grid and how to affordably build for off-grid living. Earlier this year, I was graciously granted a corner of my friend's property to place my domicile ... if I had one. (You all know the meme.)

Despite my light tone, this is a very serious situation as we get closer to winter. The frequency of the storms and their strength require something more solid and better-constructed. In my first update post, I will set out the plans and figures breaking down the costs and options.

The funds raised will go directly into purchasing:
  • the structure (shed)
  • materials for constructing the interior such as insulation, flooring, nails, paint, etc.

Any extra funds raised will go into:
  • fully outfitting the bathroom and kitchen
  • more reliable solar power setup
  • food & water storage
  • appliances
  • internet access

Again, your help will literally put a permanent roof over my head, and I greatly appreciate your assistance.
