Fire Devastates Pan de Mama

– We Need Your Help to Rebuild
At 4 AM on Monday morning, fire tore through Pan de Mama, our beloved café on Ometepe, destroying everything in its path. The espresso machine, grinder, Vitamix, coffee cups, supplies—gone. The walls are scorched, the space is damaged, and the smell of smoke still lingers.
It’s more than just equipment that was lost. It’s people’s livelihoods. It’s dreams. It’s the heart of a community.
Pan de Mama isn’t just a café—it’s a labor of love. For the past 18 months, it has provided good, stable jobs to 16 incredible Nicaraguan employees—at a wage better than most in the area. This café has been a source of security for them and their families. But now, with over $20,000 in estimated damages and lost revenue, everything is at risk.
And the timing couldn’t be worse. Tourist season is only four months long, and we’re just entering month two. This is the critical time to earn enough to sustain the business and staff for the year. In Nicaragua, there is no insurance to cover the loss. The only way to rebuild is through the kindness and generosity of our community.
For so many, Pan de Mama has been a home away from home—a place of connection, comfort, and incredible coffee. Now, we need your help to bring it back.
Every donation, no matter the amount, helps. It goes directly toward replacing the lost equipment, repairing the space, and keeping our staff employed. If you can’t contribute, please share this with others who can.
This café has given so much to so many. Now, we need to come together to save it.
Please help us rebuild Pan de Mama.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you. ❤️
