Rebuild our life after our devastating loss

We had just put $200,000 dollars into renovating our home. We made it the home we wanted to live in. It had all the things we dreamt we would need for our life together, but on August 18th at 7pm, our lives would change forever. 

The evacuation notice was fast. It was a go go go sort of scenario. We had been watching because in spite of the fire out in Davenport, and in spite of the ash and dust drifting down from the skies everyday, we weren’t sure it would come our way. 

I had been watching the satellite imagery all day that day but the fire was consistently 10 miles north, until it wasn’t. Until suddenly around 7 the fire was only a mile away. 

We left with a couple changes of clothes. A laptop each. Our cats and two cars. In days we would find that this is all that remained. Two lifetimes of possessions, all the memories we had built together there. Everything, gone. 

We don’t know how much insurance is going to fight us. We somehow have to catalog everything we have ever owned. We don’t know where we are going to live yet. If we will rebuild the house or not. All we know is that we still have a mortgage to pay. 

If you can afford to spare some extra money, please do so. If you cannot, we understand. We also understand that you may have many friends and family members who have also lost their homes to these fires. Please give to your closer friends and family before considering us. Do not overextend yourselves when you may need that money for your own family.
