Help Nessa & Her Household Rebuild After Flooding and Medical Hardship

Hi, my name is Abby Yates. I’m a Nooksack Tribal member and a friend of Nessa Cline, who is also a Nooksack Tribal member. After seeing the devastating loss Nessa and her household experienced in the flood, I offered to help raise funds so she can focus on healing and rebuilding.

Last year, my friend Nessa Cline survived a serious accident that permanently changed her daily life.

As a result of that accident, Nessa can no longer bend over or lift, push, or pull anything over five pounds. She has ongoing medical needs that must be done every other day and require her to lie down in a semi-sterile environment. Because of these physical limitations, much of the labor required to maintain a household falls to her partner and the generosity of volunteers who are able to help.

Recently, flooding in western Washington turned an already challenging situation into a crisis.

The flood damage to their home was so severe that Nessa and her household cannot safely return. To begin rebuilding, they were forced to tear apart much of the house—removing damaged walls, flooring, cabinets, and appliances.

In the process, they lost all of their belongings.

This includes major household items—refrigerators, freezers, washer and dryer, their bed, clothing, cabinets, and all stored food—but also the most basic personal necessities. When Nessa evacuated, she left with only the clothes she was wearing and one pair of shoes. Today, she owns two additional pairs only because they were gifted to her.

Unfortunately, flood insurance and HPP only cover structural damage—not personal belongings. None of these losses are reimbursed.

Because their home is uninhabitable, Nessa and her household are currently staying in an Airbnb costing $175 per night. This is the only safe option available right now, but it is not sustainable long-term. They will need to secure temporary housing for the foreseeable future while repairs continue—adding immense financial strain on top of medical needs and rebuilding costs.

To make matters more difficult, Nessa currently has no place to store what remains of their belongings, though they are actively searching for a storage unit while navigating displacement and recovery.

At this moment, they are taking life one day at a time, facing ongoing and compounding expenses, including:

How Funds Will Be Used
• Temporary lodging: $175 per night
• 30 days = $5,250
• 60 days = $10,500
• Temporary housing beyond the Airbnb
• Storage unit costs
• Replacing all essential belongings lost in the flood (clothing, shoes, bedding, appliances, basic household items)
• Ongoing medical care and accessibility needs
• Rebuilding costs not covered by insurance (personal property)

Nessa has already endured more than most—living with permanent physical limitations and ongoing medical care—and now faces the total loss of her home and possessions. No one should have to navigate recovery, displacement, and rebuilding alone.

Final Call to Action

This fundraiser is about helping Nessa and her household rebuild from nothing. Every donation helps provide immediate stability—safe housing, basic necessities, and the ability to replace what was lost—so Nessa can focus on healing instead of surviving hour to hour.

If you are able to give, please know your support makes a real and immediate difference. If you cannot donate, sharing this fundraiser is just as meaningful and helps reach others who may be able to help.

Thank you for standing with Nessa and her household during this incredibly difficult chapter. Your kindness, generosity, and compassion truly matter.

Our goal is $30,000 to help cover temporary housing, replace essential belongings lost in the flood, and support ongoing medical and accessibility needs while rebuilding continues. Any amount raised beyond immediate needs will go directly toward extended housing or additional recovery costs.
