Rebuild My Hometown in the Philippines
Donation protected

My name is Sean A. Margate. I was born in the Philippines in the province of Camarines Sur. I am currently ten years old and in fifth grade. My mom came to Canada eight years ago to be a caregiver while I stayed behind in the province under the care of my grandmother. My dad and I were finally able to immigrate to Canada four years ago and reunited with my mom. My little brother, Eli, was born in Canada two years ago.
I am writing this story to raise some disaster relief funds for my grandmother and my relatives in the Philippines to rebuild houses. Four typhoons hit the Philippines where my hometown is located. The typhoons were Siony, Quinta, Rolly, and Ulysses. They destroyed houses, boats, farms and food sources.
In addition, my family in the Philippines is struggling with meeting their daily needs because of lack of work as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.
As a ten-year-old kid, I wanted to help my family back home in a simple way. When I heard about my grandparents' house being destroyed by the four typhoons, I was devastated. My mom told me that their house was built by their hard earned money. My parents work two jobs and plan to send home their savings to help.
I felt sorry and asked myself, “How can a ten-year-old boy help rebuild the houses and help my family in the Philippines?" I am praying and believing in God who is good and powerful.
I then found out about the GoFundMe platform which offers me a practical way to make a difference (besides praying!) Your donations will help fix the houses of my relatives and replace my grandmother's boat. I hope to send the funds back home before Christmas.
THANK YOU for reading and understanding my story and for spreading the word to raise funds to support my hometown.
