Rebuild Maria’s Home After July 4th Tragedy

Rebuilding after the fire, Our family lost it all

Hello my name is Maria, I’m a 42 year old single mother with 2 children and 3 grandchildren who has worked in Home healthcare for over 16years. The night of the 4th of July was suppose to be a celebration turned out to be a nightmare for my family. As we watch the fireworks cover the City of Detroit skies we notice smoke coming from the roof of our home, calling the Fire Department to ensure our safety they responded only to spray the roof with water at 10pm that night, trusting the fire man who responded to our need we entered our home going to bed, only to be awaken at 4am by a house full of smoke and ringing smoke detectors.

By the Grace of God Myself, my 12 year Dog Miracle, my Daughter Daijah with her 3 children, 9 year old Malani, 8 year old Braylin, 6 year old Skylar and my 16 year old son Jalen who work so hard to play football attending University Prep Math & Science H.S. only saving his football helmet, we were all able to escape the blazing horror of fire.

We only have the clothes on our backs and each other. I recently lost my older sister in 2021 and the only thing I was able to save was a picture of us together. We Lost everything and with very little resources we are asking our City and anyone who can help us rebuild a home again.
