Help Macy Rebuild After the Fire

Macy has been my best friend since 6th grade. Anyone in my life knows Macy, and knows that she hates to ask for help. Over the years, we’ve moved cities together, weathered heartbreak, and supported each other through every chapter of life. A few years ago, she made the brave move from Maryland to Nashville — not just to start over, but to stand up.

Since arriving in Nashville, Macy has become a pillar in the activist community. She works tirelessly advocating for LGBTQ+ rights, showing up to rallies, testifying at the Capitol, and volunteering wherever she's needed. She works overnight shifts at Launchpad, a shelter for unhoused youth, and still picks up restaurant shifts at Pastaria to make ends meet. Her life is centered around caring for others — especially those most overlooked.

But now, Macy needs us.

Last week, a fire tore through her apartment building. Though her belongings weren’t destroyed, they’ve suffered major smoke damage. Her home is no longer livable, and the apartment complex is offering no assistance. Macy suddenly finds herself without a place to live — and without the resources to start again.

To make things even more painful, her cat, Sweet Pete, has gone missing in the chaos. Sweet Pete was adopted with her late partner, who passed away a few years ago. Losing him in this moment has reopened deep grief and made an already traumatic experience even harder to bear.

Macy has already been through so much in her life — more than most could handle. And still, she shows up for her community every single day. Now it’s time we show up for her.

We’re raising funds to help Macy find stable housing, whether that’s a new apartment or a small trailer where she can begin to rebuild. Every dollar will help provide safety, dignity, and hope to someone who has given so much of herself to others.
