We are Reber Rock Farm, a small family farm based in the Adirondacks of NY. Our pasture-raised organic meats are produced and processed by our farm team that includes four Jamaicans. Keygon, Sheneka, Precious, and Malik joined us this year on temporary H2A visas and will be headed home for the winter as our season wraps up.
But right now, they have nowhere to head home to. Hurricane Melissa swept through Jamaica this past week, and their families and communities are devastated.
Keygon’s town of Black River is flattened. His roof is off, and part of the house is gone.
Malik, Precious, and Sheneka all come from St. Elizabeth’s Parish, where damage was also heavy; roads are closed, roofs blown off. Contact with their families is still difficult.
Funds raised will be divided equally among them. Our goal is to get $5,000 per person to start.
This money will help their families get a home back and help them have a place to return to.
Building back better will cost more and depend on the extent of the damage and the options available to each of them given their personal life circumstances.
No donation is too small!
Our Adirondack Food System is seriously supported by Jamaicans. Your support keeps them strong and capable of carrying on.
