Help Matt, Kayla and Baby Charlotte after Hurricane Helene

Hurricane Helene has taken my cousin Matthew’s home.

He and his wife Kayla and Baby Charlotte, live in Crabtree an area around Burnsville, NC. When the hurricane hit, Matt, who works as a first responder, was ready to respond to any need in his surrounding area. Little did he know the rains would overtake the spring below his home and cause flooding that would destroy their home.

A home he and his wife saved for and finally were able to buy is now a total loss. The cement slab his home was sitting on is now sitting out like it is on air with no ground left underneath it. It has been washed away with only a small area holding it up. Due to roads being washed out and literally gone, he had to hike out his wife and baby to safety and then hiked back for his two dogs and anything he could carry out. They are now safe from the last phone call he was able to make. We are very grateful they are alive, but they will need so much in the future to rebuild their lives.

They are young and humble people that would never ask for anything. Matt is very proud and will probably not like that I am doing this GoFundMe for him, but he works so hard and is always helping others. With cell phone coverage minimal if any at all, he was able to make a short call to let us know his family is okay before his phone lost signal. I know he is working to save others at this time of desperate need. He is a proud but humble young man.

I am his cousin Sandie, an RN. I work in the Emergency Room. I live in Florida. Funds will be sent to Matt’s account. My parents, as well as Matthew's, have always helped and gone above and beyond to humbly help others. I came up with a random goal amount to help them out with living expenses and basic needs till they can figure out how to rebuild.
