Dear friends and kind strangers. My name is Kiti, and I need your help to rebuild my life here in southern Chile. Due to a problem with the electrical wiring, my house caught fire. In mere minutes, my family and I lost everything. Absolutely everything.

I got burn injuries when I ran back into to the burning house to guide my niece down from the upper floor.

I know the four of us were lucky to have escaped with our lives with only minor burn injuries, due to the magnitude of the fire, and I'm grateful for it, I truly am. But on the other hand, we escaped only with what we were wearing. Nothing else. I even lost my glasses.

I got my phone with me because I was calling the fire department while still trying to stop the fire from spreading.

Our three dogs survived, but one of them, our dear Khalessi, went missing after the fire, and we still haven’t found her.

My whole life burned and disappeared. I literally have nothing.

I am a researcher and history teacher whose focus is women's history, primarily the lives of women under the military dictatorship of Chile. Before the fire, I volunteered teaching history in a project to help queer & other underprivileged people prepare for university entrance exams (PAES). I had to quit because my tablet and all my teaching materials was lost in the fire.

My family has spent the last three weeks cleaning out the burn site.

Photos and heirlooms are lost forever, but donating will give me and my family the ability to get back on our feet, replace our possessions, and begin the rebuilding our family home on my mother's plot.

We need money for temporary housing, basic necessities, phones, and clothes and shoes. We also need to save up so we're eligible for state subsidy to rebuild the house. The first step is to level the ground and remove the old foundation, which costs around 35,000NOK/3200$/3000€

The fundraiser is organised by Veronika Drageid, and their partner Øystein Lund. Kiti and Veronika are best friends and both Veronika and Øystein can vouch for Kiti and her family. We can’t disclose Kiti’s full name because it’s not safe for her or her family, but we know them well and we’ve already helped with the most basic necessities, including new glasses for Kiti.
