*big goal is $4,000-gufundme only let me put $800 for starters*
A little about me:
My name is Jasper Robledo! I’m a 23 year old trans guy from the Bay Area. I work in education/caregiving and in my free time enjoy making art, biking, looking at maps, exploring, spending time with loved ones, and listening to music. It is my long term goal to go back to school and get my teaching credentials. It is my immediate dream to have a safe and stable place to live. I think about it everyday.
The situation:
the past year and a half I’ve lost my housing 3 times mostly due to the cost of living-each loss more emotionally taxing than the last.
This summer I had to move out of my home of only a few weeks due to the fact that I was assaulted by two of my roommates. My most recent housing was a work exchange-which means that I worked a certain amount of hours a week and in exchange I got to live in a house for free and received a monthly living stipend. When I lost my housing I also lost one of my jobs, big parts of my day to day community, and for a while my will to live. Since the assault I’ve had to move back to my childhood home which has had a very negative impact on my wellbeing due to the dysfunctional nature of my family and being harassed by a transphobic parent.
I recently started a new job working as an aide for the school district,
but since I’ve mostly been subbing (getting odd hours), just had an unpaid one week thanksgiving break, and have an unpaid 3 week Christmas break coming up-I worry about saving money to get a place to live.
On two separate incidents someone damaged my car while I left it parked on the street overnight- most recently the impact from the other driver made it extremely unsafe for me to drive my car and I cannot afford to get it fixed. Due to the fact that I’ve been struggling financially the car was not covered by insurance at the time of the accident. I now leave the house at 6:30 am to walk and take the bus/train to my job that starts at 8:30 am. The most recent damage to my car is what brought me to make this campaign-it’s what gets me to work (my job is an hour long commute if I drive), houses lots of my essentials like clothing, and acts as a place of refuge.
I’m in the process of looking for a second job but am unsure of when I will be able to start.
All money donated to this campaign will go towards getting me safe and stable housing asap, and if anything is leftover it will go towards getting my car repaired so I have a reliable way to get to work on time.
An investment in me is also an investment in our communities. Once I’m in a more stable position I will be able to go above and beyond for my students as well as be more involved in making our local community/world a better place.
