Rebuild Jamaica: It's a marathon, not a sprint

Last week, on October 27th, category 5 Hurricane Melissa hit Jamaica with winds peaking at 185mph. The west of the island was the worst affected, many towns were completely destroyed. Houses ripped off their foundations, debris crushing walls & roofs and floodwaters making homes uninhabitable.

My Jamaican family live in Trelawny, one of the worst-affected parishes. Like many residents of Clark's Town, my sister and nephew are currently displaced after a tree fell onto their house. Outside of this crisis, my sister works as a dental hygienist but floodwaters in Montego Bay have destroyed her clinic, along with all her equipment. Like so many others, the hurricane has not only destroyed my sister's home, but also her livelihood for the foreseeable future.

Here's where you all can help, a sponsored marathon! On the 27th December I will be running my first ever marathon. I am hoping all my friends & loved ones will be able to donate what they can to help rebuild Jamaica, in the aftermath of the strongest hurricane to ever make landfall on the island.

I am raising money to help not only my family but others in the settlement of Clark's Town.
Whilst the clean up is certainly underway in more affluent areas and tourist hubs, my fear is that smaller towns (and average Jamaicans) will be left behind.

Money from this fundraiser will be used to help residents rebuild their homes and regain their livelihoods.
