“I didn’t experience anything like this.”
“We are going to have to start from scratch.”
“I don’t know how to start, I don’t know how to start.”
“Everything mashup.”
”I lost everything.”
These are some of the common words and concerns shared among many Jamaicans who lived through Hurricane Melissa. Many lives were lost and impacted. Every life forever changed. It is heartbreaking seeing videos and images of hospitals destroyed, patients pleading to God for deliverance, emergency generators destroyed, homes blown flat to the ground, roofs blown off homes, and airports destroyed. The majority of Jamaica’s infrastructure has been destroyed. Jamaica has never experienced anything like this. What we know of such a beautiful island, my island, is truly unrecognizable. I am asking for your help to rebuild Jamaica. To bring encouragement and hope to many people who are desperate than ever to start over, to recover, to survive.
The eye of Melissa was said hit my primary school, New Hope Primary and Junior High. Devastating the lives of family and friends in the area. Unfortunately, power has not been restored in that area. But our efforts must begin now. To ensure that children can still attend school, lives can still be saved, communities can be rebuilt, and hospitality can be restored to all who fell in love with Jamaica, its people, and to all who can relate to the impact of such devastation.
To all who are able to donate, we will update you along the way on how your contribution made the greatest impact.
