Hello,
I am Awbre Henry and I am currently living in the America but I was born and raised in Jamaica. I creating this Gofundme page for my mother, Ivet, my stepdad, Pheris, and my stepbrother, Nicolas, who are still living in Jamaica and lost nearly everything when Hurricane Melissa tore through the area of Jamaica.
Their home, which was a symbol of their hard work and love, was severely damaged—the structure is compromised, and the powerful winds and flooding destroyed all of the contents inside. Beyond the house itself, they also lost two vital water supply tanks and had their main power supply connections ripped out. They were left with nothing but the clothes on their backs and the overwhelming task of starting over from scratch.
This campaign is our urgent plea for help to give them the basics of life and the means to safely rebuild their future.
The Scale of the Damage and What We Need to Rebuild
The challenges facing the family are immense. We aren't just replacing items; we are rebuilding the infrastructure necessary to live and work on the property again. Your donations will directly fund the critical stages of recovery, broken down into three essential categories:
1. Essential Living and Immediate Needs
The family needs to immediately replace the basic necessities required to live safely while the major rebuilding takes place.
• Beds: Replacing lost mattresses and frames so they have a safe place to sleep.
• Appliances: Purchasing a stove and refrigerator to store and prepare food.
• Clothes & Personal Items: Replacing lost clothing, toiletries, and small personal belongings.
2. Restoring Basic Utilities and Water Independence
Without power and water, rebuilding is impossible. These funds will secure the necessary systems.
• Water System: Replacing the two lost water supply tanks and repairing the damaged piping system.
• Water Catchment System: Adding a reliable water catchment system to ensure a sustainable and safe water source in the future.
• Power for Rebuilding: Securing funds to either reconnect the power supply or purchase a small, reliable solar power system. This small solar setup is critical as it would allow them to run power tools required for reconstruction, independent of the grid.
3. Structural Rebuilding and Repairs
This is the largest component of the damage. Funds will go toward materials, structural repairs, and specialized labor to make the house safe and habitable again.
• Building Materials: Purchasing lumber, roofing, cement, and steel.
• Professional Labor: Covering costs for electricians, plumbers, and structural engineers needed to ensure the home meets current building codes.
