When heart and passion collide, dreams come true. Meet Christine, who fell in love with baking at age 8. Young Christine dreamed of opening her own bakery to bring yummy treats and joy to her community. She worked diligently to pursue her dreams by attending culinary classes, immersing herself in the industry, and saving every penny. In October 2018, Christine’s hard work and dedication became a reality, and she opened the doors of Indulge Bakery in Mount Vernon.

Indulge Bakery quickly became a beloved spot for locals. Indulge is not just a bakery; it’s a place where relationships are forged, memories are made, and love is shared. While Christine’s pastries drew a crowd, it was the warmth of her craft that enticed the locals. Indulge quickly won the hearts of the community, and within the first 5 years Christine and her staff proudly celebrated multiple Skagit’s Best Awards. Along with sharing her love of baking, Christine is committed to giving back. She has created a thriving community through donations and support for numerous local programs and charitable causes.

Right on the heels of Indulges fifth-anniversary celebration, tragedy struck, and years of hard work and success shattered instantly. On October 21, 2023, an electrical fire in a vent fan ignited in the bakery’s utility closet. The intense heat of the fire raged until it burst through the water pipes. The water pipes began to gush and eventually extinguished the flames, narrowly missing the gas water tank a few feet away.

While the burst pipes thankfully saved the building, the damage to the bakery was catastrophic. The bakery that was filled with so much joy and warmth was now dark and gloomy. The extensive smoke and water damage created a total loss. The bakery would need to be rebuilt from scratch.

Now Christine, her family and staff face the daunting task of rebuilding. Christine is not only determined to rebuild the bakery and community gathering place but is also expecting the arrival of a baby girl in just a few weeks. Her close-knit staff was anticipating the family’s new addition and looking forward to the busy holiday season. While Indulge Bakery’s business went up in flames, the spirit of resilience burns stronger than ever.
