My name is Peta Rivera, and what you’re looking at are a few pictures of what remains of the homes my family lived in and where I grew up in Jamaica. You may not have seen these images on the news, but Westmoreland, and in particular, very rural areas like Darliston, experienced the full force and catastrophic winds of Hurricane Melissa’s eyewall. Of the houses on our family’s land, only ONE remains standing where our family took refuge, though not without significant damages, including 80% of the house being without a roof. All other homes were completely destroyed and left in a rubble, with my family having to search through the damage for anything usable. My family is without electricity and much of the area is blocked off from the rest of the country currently due to damages to the terrain and necessary infrastructure from the hurricane. I am asking for your help as my family recovers and rebuilds from the devastation left by this hurricane. Anything helps. I’m truly grateful for your consideration. If you can’t donate but would love to offer non-perishable items, please message me for information on where to ship these so that we can send relief packages to our family in the coming weeks and months, including generators since it is uncertain when electricity will be restored. We appreciate you. We are looking at years of recovery and rebuilding, but I’m hopeful that with your help, we can get there.

We are looking at completely rebuilding 4 houses and fixing the roof of one.

Donated funds will be used toward:

Thank you so much for your help. God bless you.
