Hi, my name is Jammila Dakay, a band 5 staff nurse, from Hardy ward. I am currently here in my hometown in Sibonga, Cebu, Philippines (southern Cebu), I was able to feel the 6.9 magnitude earthquake that occurred last September 30, 2025 just before 10PM, but not as strong as what the northern part of Cebu experienced that centered Bogo City.

This was no ordinary quake. At only about 5 kilometers deep, it sent violent tremors through homes, schools, and buildings, destroying structures, severing lifelines of power and water, and shattering the lives of hundreds of families.

What People Are Facing:

• At least 72 people have died.

• Around 294 injured.

• Nearly 171,000 people have been affected, and some 20,000 displaced from their homes.

• Almost 600 houses damaged, of which some are destroyed.

• Key infrastructure such as schools, churches, bridges, roads are severely damaged. Communities that were already vulnerable are now facing even greater hardship.

In towns like Bogo, San Remigio, Medellin, Tabogon, Tabuelan, Sogod, Daanbantayan, Borbon and other Northern Cebu places lives were lost amid collapsing structures, falling debris, and landslides. In San Remigio, for instance, a sports complex collapsed during a basketball game.

The quake struck at night, when many were asleep, magnifying the devastation and the trauma. Aftershocks — over 2,300 recorded so far — continue to menace the already unstable ground.

I am here to knock on your hearts. Our brothers and sisters in Cebu are in urgent need after the devastating earthquake. Many families are left with nothing, no food, no clean water, no safe shelter.
