“One one cocoa full basket.”
A Jamaican proverb meaning small, consistent efforts can fill even the largest basket — that together, we can achieve great things.
My beloved homeland of Jamaica, and my hometown of Savanna-la-Mar in Westmoreland Parish, has been devastated by Category 5 Hurricane Melissa, the strongest storm ever to hit the island head-on.
It is hard to put into words what it feels like to see the place I once called home — the streets, schools, and houses that raised me, simply gone. While I am deeply grateful that my family and friends are safe, the reality is that many others have lost everything. Roofs are gone. Homes are flooded. Communities are cut off without power, clean water, or shelter.
I am asking for your help as I begin a boots-on-the-ground relief effort for my immediate community in Savanna-la-Mar and the surrounding areas. Every dollar raised will go directly toward providing essential supplies to families most in need... bypassing government delays and ensuring your support reaches the right hands.
Your contributions will help provide:
• Building materials
• Food and clean drinking water
• Bedding and clothing
• Hygiene and care essentials
I will personally be traveling to Jamaica to deliver supplies and assist in coordinating local relief efforts with trusted community members. This is not a distant charity, it is a direct line of support from you to the people who need it most.
Jamaicans are strong, proud, and resilient. But right now, we need your help. Every contribution — no matter the size — brings us one step closer to restoring hope and normalcy to families who have lost everything.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for caring and for standing with us.
Together, one one cocoa full basket, we can help rebuild our home.
One Love,
Dexter McKenzie
