Rebuild Hope for Edie and Larry Post-Hurricane
Donation protected
My name is Jan Hayworth. My sister Edie Gibson Shinn and her husband Larry lost everything due to hurricane Helene’s storm surge. Their home is uninhabitable and likely a total loss. They lost all of their personal property except for a few clothes that they took when they evacuated. They are older (65 plus like me). They have spent the last 3 days trying to remove the damaged property from their home. I have attached a photo of the floors in their house. The floors are like this throughout their home. They laid down a path of plywood on the floor joists to get their furnishings, spoiled food, clothing and shoes from the home. All of their large appliances and heating/cooling equipment, water heater etc. are not salvageable.
They do have flood insurance but it is very limited coverage due to the perimeters set by flood insurer (less than $60k). They do not have additional living expense coverage. Debris removal is included in their limited coverage.
They are currently staying with family nearly 2 hours away. There is nothing available nearby to rent due to the total devastation in their town on the west coast of Florida.
They not only need help getting started again but also with unexpected expenses related to their travel to and from their home as they attempt to empty the contents to start rebuilding their life.
We hope you can find it in your heart to help in some way. Thank you in advance.
