Recently, Jamaica was struck by the catastrophic Category 5 Hurricane Melissa, one of the most powerful storms to ever hit the island. The devastation has been unimaginable — roads have been washed away, metal doors twisted by the wind, and countless families displaced. Many lives have been lost, and even now, some bodies remain unrecovered due to the severe infrastructural damage.

My family lives in Darliston, Westmoreland (High Gates) a place not many know of or speak much about, but one of the hardest-hit communities. My grandmother, who is 89 years old, and my mother, her full-time caretaker for 7 years, have lost everything. Their home suffered catastrophic damage — as seen in the video I have posted — the roof was torn apart, walls collapsed, and all furniture and personal belongings were destroyed beyond repair. They are now left with no clothing, no food, and none of the basic necessities needed to survive, currently staying in a temporary shelter just to have a roof over their heads.

My mother, who is unemployed and solely dedicated to caring for my elderly grandmother, is now facing the heartbreaking reality of starting over from nothing.

I am humbly asking for your support to help them rebuild. Any donation — monetary or even physical items including a generator and solar powered appliances are welcome due to no electricity being in the area — no matter how small, will go toward providing food, clothing, medical supplies, and repairs to their home so they can return to a safe and stable environment.
