Our Story:
On the evening of March 29th, 2023, my family of four was enjoying a movie together in our living room when we were alerted by a loud banging on our front door. A passerby noticed that our garage was on fire. Our garage was unique, featuring an enclosed porch, and at some point that evening, a fire ignited, quickly engulfing the entire porch in flames by the time we were informed.
Once the fire department extinguished the blaze, we were able to assess the extensive damage. Unfortunately, we lost all of our lawn furniture, a Blackstone grill that I had given to my husband, Trevor, for Father's Day the previous year, as well as all of my gardening and camping equipment, bicycles, and other items typically stored in a garage. Thankfully, we had never parked our car inside the garage, which prevented further loss.
We had homeowners insurance with Progressive and, under the impression that we were fully covered, we did not anticipate the challenge we would face. Unfortunately, we discovered that we were severely underinsured for standalone structures. We learned that they should be covered for a minimum of 10% of the value of the home, but we were covered for less than 3%.
As a result, the construction company we hired to rebuild one wall and the roof has provided us with an estimate of $18,000, a sum we currently do not possess. We fully understand that financial constraints are a reality for many, but we have exhausted all options to manage this new financial burden.
Even if you are unable to contribute financially, we would greatly appreciate your support in sharing our story.
Thank you for your kindness
