Hello, my name is Jhennel Stevens. I was born and raised in Westmoreland Jamaica. The place that shaped me in every way. It's where I learned to ride my bicycle down red dirt roads, where I danced barefoot at family gatherings, and where I was surrounded by love, laughter, and the strength of my community. Our home wasn't just a building, it was the heart of our family. It held generations of memories, stories, and tradition.
Even though I now live in Michigan, Westmoreland is still where my heart is. Many of my relatives still live in our family home as we help support them here from Michigan. Jamaica's economy is nothing like the United States, and resources are limited at best.
On October 28th my hometown took a direct hit from the monstrous hurricane Melissa. She swept through our beloved town with record speeds of 185 MPH destroying everything in her path. Our family home was 1 of 750 homes that was completely destroyed. Our roof was torn off, walls collapsed, and all of our contents were lost, including unreplaceable keepsakes and family heirlooms dating back 2 centuries.
This natural disaster has left my family displaced and struggling to recover. It's hard to describe the pain of seeing the place you were raised reduced to rubble. The home where dozens of children took their first steps, celebrated birthdays, and saying goodbye to loved ones is now destroyed. But we are NOT GIVING UP.
We have started this campaign to raise funds to rebuild our historic family home, as well as our neighbors homes whom were all effected by hurricane Melissa. The raised funds will go towards reconstruction of our and neighbors homes just to the point where they are livable. We will worry about the cosmetics down the road a little at a time. We will also be providing essential items such as, clothing, food, clean water, and emergency supplies. My family still has no power and it could be months until it gets restored.
With a heavy heart we are reaching out to our fellow American's sincerely asking for a helping hand. If we could share this with 50,000 people that gives just $1.00 we would reach our goal of restoring what was lost. If it is in your heart to donate any amount it would mean the world to myself and my family. If you are unable to donate $1.00 could you please share this and help us with our campaign? We would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you for standing with us during this humanitarian crisis. We are holding onto hope, and with your help we could not only rebuild our home, but help rebuild our entire community.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart..
Jhennel Stevens
